AI Safety
Overview
AI might be this century’s biggest risk and biggest opportunity. We think governments’ top priority should be ensuring advanced AI systems are well-governed and safe. Humanity will only reap AI’s benefits if we do the work necessary to ensure serious harm does not occur.
The key risks from AI are misuse risks – empowering people who intend to do harm – or loss of control. We think governments should implement specific risk mitigations to address particular kinds of misuse, and invest in AI Safety Institutes and AI safety research to address the root causes of these risks.
In the same way that Australia is a global leader on aviation safety, we think Australia has the opportunity to be a leader on AI safety.
